Overview:
Divorce Mediation is the expeditious and economical resolution of disputes that may otherwise be mired in the court system for years. It involves confidential settlement discussions by parties in front of an impartial professional. See the attached article for more information.
The Process:
Once both sides have agreed to use mediation as an alternative to going to court, an initial session is scheduled. During that session, both sides receive an orientation to the mediation process and begin work on agreements. The number of sessions needed to reach an agreement depends on the complexity of the issues and upon the ability of the parties to work cooperatively toward a solution. When an agreement is reached, it is drafted into a legally binding contract, which can be made part of a court order divorcing the parties.
The Better Solution:
Mediation can offer creative solutions that benefit both parities, thereby allowing the parties to maintain a working relationship that might otherwise have been destroyed by contentious litigation. See the attached article for more information.
